The Conversation Crisis
As both a native English speaker and a non-native Spanish speaker, I've noticed some troubling trends over the years: the quality and depth of conversations are declining; language is being both simplified and watered down; and true two-way exchanges are becoming increasingly rare.
Additionally, people seem more disconnected than ever before. These observations deeply affected me and inspired what has become my mission: to help address what I call “The Conversation Crisis.”
While studying this crisis, observing others in dialogue, and reflecting on my own interactions, I discovered something profound:
The abilities to express ourselves effectively, listen responsively, and connect authentically aren't just social skills—they're essential for both personal fulfillment and professional success.
From Theory to
Practice Worldwide
My academic credentials (Ph.D. in Bilingual Education, M.A. and B.A. in Spanish, and two TEFL certificates) and research into the science of human connection established the theoretical foundation for my work as a conversation specialist.
But it was living in eight U.S. states, Colombia, and the Czech Republic, along with long-term stays in Cuba, Cyprus, Georgia, Hungary, Mexico, and Spain, that provided the practical wisdom.
Along the way, I’ve been afforded a variety of rewarding professional roles. Examples include training foreign language teachers in New York City, directing a university study abroad program in Querétaro, México, and developing a specialized communication course for oil refinery managers in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia.
Equally enriching have been the personal experiences that shaped my perspective. Among these were bonding with Georgian locals in Tbilisi, who became like family, growing close with Cuban hosts during my time in La Habana, and cultivating lasting friendships among people from diverse backgrounds across the United States.
